I wanted to share something we’re really excited about with Typified’s updating poster.
All of our posters will be exclusive print runs of 500 units, before changing design. We’ll have around 5 designs per series before changing the visual theme for the subsequent series.
IKEA poster vs a piece of art
Both are designed by talented creatives, but somehow one feels special and valuable, while the other feels nice but replaceable. There’s most likely a number of reasons for this, but here are a couple.
On the design side, the IKEA poster is designed to please the largest amount of people possible. Where as, the piece of art was based more on outward expression from the artist. Far less people will appreciate it, but when they do, it says something about them and evokes feelings from a deeper place.
On the manufacture side, well the Japanese concept of Wabi-Sabi probably applies.
